High Speed Impact Testing
Biokinetics has developed an Air Cannon that can be adapted to perform a multitude of tasks ranging from generating blast wind to launching projectiles for inflicting blunt trauma. It is possible to achieve blast winds up to 800 km/h, projectiles speeds of 100 m/s for 1 kg, and acceleration of a 37 kg ram to 18 m/s for the research of high energy events.
Our laboratory is equipped with the test surrogates and instrumentation necessary to study the consequences of bodily impact. Examples include the assessment of head and facial trauma from less-than-lethal ammunition, facial trauma from hockey pucks, thoracic blunt trauma from thrown bricks in crowd management situations and lower leg injury assessment from blast related floor pan intrusion.
